Plants that Will Add Instant Curb Appeal to Your Home

Your home's curb appeal is its first impression. And as Will Rogers stated "you never get a second chance to make a first impression". So, you want to make sure it's a good one, right?

Plants are an easy and beautiful way to add instant curb appeal to your home.

These are some of my favorite, low-maintenance shrubs that are perfect for creating curb appeal for the front of your house. I consider these low-maintenance due to the lack of constant pruning and trimming, plus their evergreen coloring.

Boxwood. These are hardy and green year-round. They are easy to care for and are resistant to disease.

Juniper. Being a type of evergreen, Junipers ensure year-round color. They come in low growing varieties that are great to use for ground coverage.

Azalea. These shrubs are evergreens, that look nice year-round, but also flower from early spring to the fall. They put off a star-shaped, white, pink, red, purple, lavender or orange flower.

Hostas. Low-lying plants that come in varying shades of green, from light to dark. They remain green year-round, blooming from spring through late summer.

Gardenia. You can probably guess why these made my list....the wonderful smell! There are different varieties you can choose, based on where and what you are using them for. They come in dwarf (2 feet), through a tall variety (8 feet).

Lilacs. I saved my favorite for last, despite it not being an evergreen! This is my absolute favorite shrub/tree, due to the floral fragrance and lavender color. They are best used singly or as a backdrop for lower shrubs or plants. Side note, the flowers are nice to cut and put in vases to add inside your home for their beauty and scent.

Granted, there are an abundance of shrubs to choose from. Not sure where to start? Find plants that will work with the amount of sunshine or lack thereof, that is available in the front of your house. Choose plants that complement each other in size. You don't want plants that all grow to the same height. You can choose plants that bloom at different times of the year, so when one loses its bloom, the next is ready to take over, thus beautifying your landscape continually.

By adding colors and elements such as symmetry and balance, you can create an appealing landscape to your home, giving off the first impression you desire.
