With the internet bursting with images of every home available on the market today, the case could be made that there is no reason to leave the comfort of your home, hope that your realtor is available and attend open houses in person. But before discounting the necessity of attending an open house, let's talk about the benefits of going to an open house.

What are the benefits of attending an open house? They are actually numerous, believe it or not!

• The opportunity to look without feeling any pressure to buy. Since you can attend without your realtor, it gives you the opportunity to peruse the home without feeling like you need to make any quick decisions.
• You don't need an appointment. Just show up, at your convenience, during the advertised open hours.
• You will get a feel for how many other people may be interested in the home. By knowing the amount of traffic coming through, you will have a better idea on how quickly you will have to move if you are interested in writing a contract and at what amount.
• Hear what others have to say. This could be very beneficial. Keep your ears open and pick up the knowledge of other attendees.
• You can spend some time having a conversation with the listing agent, they may divulge information you typically wouldn't have access to.
• You can acquaint yourself with the neighborhood. Take some time to drive or walk around the neighborhood.
• Walking through several different open houses will show you different options, features and floorplans, etc. You may realize that what you thought you wanted....isn't.
• Gather some of the latest trend and/or décor ideas for when you do purchase a home. The more you see the more you'll know.  (Side note: I am impressed with how our design team decorates our homes to the finest detail and have mimicked some of these ideas in my own home!)

If you are concerned you will be inconveniencing your realtor or monopolizing their time by asking them to attend every open house you want to attend, or maybe you have not connected with a realtor yet, I've got good news. It is not necessary for a realtor to attend with you. It is actually commonplace for individuals to attend open houses solo.
